Harry Potter Moment of The Week is a weekly blog event hosted by Uncorked Thoughts! Each week Leah suggests a magical topic for discussion.
This week’s Harry Potter MoTW is: Best ‘Luna Moment.’
That’s really a tough one. Luna is one of my favourite characters ever, I (terribly) dressed up as her once at a Harry Potter themed party – yes, it was awesome – although the only picture I have isn’t very good, I had bottle corks on a chain around my neck and a horrific blonde haystack wig on my head.
I love that Luna is completely unafraid and unashamed to do what she wants, like what she likes and to be exactly who she is. As a young person I found that inspiring. I love that she’s smart too, a lot of emphasis gets put on the quirky nonsense of Luna and it sometimes gets overlooked that she’s a Ravenclaw, or that she’s so incredibly perceptive that she managed to recognise Polyjuice-Potioned Harry purely by his facial expression.
If pushed for my favourite moment – and that’s the point, after all, not an ode-to-Luna, although I may have to indulge in one in the future – I’d say Luna commentating the Gryffindor/Hufflepuff Quidditch match during Half Blood Prince, was one of my highlights. It’s one of those passages that I couldn’t stop laughing at, and in a book filled with a lot of seriousness and death eaters and getting-close-to-the-end stuff going down, that lightheartedness was all the better.
“And Harry Potter’s now having an argument with his Keeper / I don’t think that’ll help him find the snitch but maybe it’s a clever ruse…”
Although special mention does have to go to Luna joining Harry at Slughorn’s Christmas party.
“I don’t think you should be an Auror Harry. / The Aurors are part of the Rotfang Conspiracy, I thought everyone knew that. They’re working from within to bring down the Ministry of Magic using a combination of Dark magic and gum disease.”
It’s nice to have the reinforcement that two friends can go to a party together and just enjoy each other’s time. With all the ugh-romance going off in that book, it’s good to have the girl-friend rather than girlfriend representation.
What’s your favourite Luna moment? One of mine? Or something I’ve missed?
You don’t know just how my mind stopped and locked on to your post title the moment I saw it. Why have I never known about this blog event? This is a travesty, one that must be rectified immediately! *dashes off*

You’re so right: Luna is an inspiring character and a rightful role-model ♥ Both the moments you mentioned are so perfectly ‘Luna’ How she brings humor into serious situations and how she always says the best things in the perfect moments! I love how she always manages to make Harry (& Ron) smile and appreciate her 😀 Wonderful pick ^^ and *high-five* for dressing up as her!!

Thank you so much! I’m glad you agree with the moments I picked. You’re right, I love how she lightens Harry’s world just that little bit – it’s why he invites her to the party after all! Bringing humor to a serious moment is a gift that I wish I had too! 🙂
